In the last month I have been in writing mode, focusing on finishing my first book under a tight deadline.  I’ve never done anything so intensively in my life.

Thursday, however, I wasted the whole day barely writing.  In fact, I’ve been struggling badly with productivity for the last two weeks, running circles rewriting or blanking out in the undone chapter.  I was at my wits end.

Finally, I applied my own intuitive Clear Wisdom process to the problem (a process I offer here at GIA).  I asked the Universe what time frame is most productive for me to write in during the day.  What a difference!

When Does Your Muse Strike?

You might know if you are a morning person or evening, but do you know exactly when your muse strikes? It may not even be every day.  The last time I did a productivity schedule for someone, it was a certain number of hours per day, three days a week, and it didn’t matter which days, his choice.

The answer for me and this book was 8 am – 11:30 and 1 pm – 2:30, seven days a week.  And WOW — today I stuck to those hours and got TONS of writing done!  Better, I remained enthusiastic about the writing the whole time.  If I start too late in the day, I can’t get the level of excitement I need to write decently.  (When it’s bad, it’s awful.)

Now I can see I’ve been losing productivity by starting way too late in the day, doing other tasks first.  Next, my three regular 8 am meetings each week have to GO!

With today’s busy schedule, it seems like a no-brainer to get the most out of the time you work.  Ready to hit your maximum creativity and productivity stride?  Sit in meditation for a few minutes and then ask yourself or the Universe what your ideal schedule is.

Though April Fool’s Day comes once a year, we are archetypal Fools every day of the year. 

What?  Did I just call you a fool? 

No, silly — a Fool with a capital F.  The archetypal innocent.  The one delving into new projects with optimism and enthusiasm.  The one that sees sunny skies without clouds.  The part of you simply enjoying being your genuine self.

At your best as a Fool, you life joyfully in the Now, without a useless worry.  You are present and inquisitive.  Heavy thoughts are not even on your radar — what will they think, what should I do, I don’t have enough, am I good enough, etc. 

Your inner positive Fool is excited about life, pushing forward into new adventures, fully digesting what you’ve learned, letting the icky parts go, and moving on.

This is a brilliant state of mind.  With the state of mind of the positive Fool you can find genuine fulfillment.  You can enjoy your life to the max. You can get things done! 

The Negative Fool

At its worst, however, your inner Fool can attempt to recreate these carefree feelings in negative ways.   The negative Fool is inauthentically carefree. For instance:

• Pretending things are fine when they aren’t.
• Using avoidance to goof off in a fun way and pretend you don’t have a problem that’s getting worse. 
• Using artificial means of feeling good, like substances and thrilling experiences.
• Giving up on yourself and following or conforming to others’ likes and dislikes.

Ultimately, the negative Fool blocks what brings you joy.  It blocks you from hearing and fulfilling your Highest Calling, the activity which brings you the most joy in life and allows you to help others the most. 

The negative Fool creates temporary innocence and joy, but brings worse suffering in the long run.

Your Assignment for this April Fool’s Day

You deserve to be happy, confident, and carefree.  You were born to enjoy your positive inner Fool.

I propose you take a moment today to consider where the negative Fool is showing up in your life.  The negative Fool pops up to save us from problems we think we can’t handle.  Spiritually, however, I have come to understand that if you have a problem, you CAN handle it.  And the sooner the better, so your negative Fool doesn’t foolishly make it worse!

How can you express your inner positive Fool more?  Consider just ONE tiny change you can make starting today. Look at the list of four negative strategies above and change something to stop relying on one of them. 

Whatever tiny change you choose to make, STICK TO IT.  That makes all the difference.

This past weekend I had fun hosting GIA’s table at a 2-day Mind Body Spirit Expo.  Because it was oriented as a psychic fair (schedule a reading and get in the door free), I heard a lot from visitors to my table about their psychic readings.

What troubled me is that I heard about a lot of pain and suffering caused by their readings. Hang on, this is not what a psychic reading is about!

Over the last year, I’ve finally started using the word psychic to describe what I do as a business consultant.  It’s that simple: I see pictures, see new products in your potential, get timelined tasks to reach goals, and more.  Clients say the information is uncannily accurate and helpful.  So I’ve finally started calling it like it is — I’m a psychic.

Any psychic worth his or her salt would be horrified to discover their reading caused distress!  The whole purpose of a reading is to help you see and know capabilities you are ignoring, to see projects and gifts in your potential to easily develop, and heart-centered knowing that you are blocking out.  You might be blocked because of emotions, distress, stress, old habits, small thinking, or old conditioning and beliefs. 

It’s OK to get help moving through those blockages.  The point of a reading is to give you information from your own informaiton field to uplift you to your greatest possibilities, and help you align with your heart and inner knowing. 

Psychic Readings Are Healing Tools, Not Weapons

At our booth, one woman in particular told me a psychic said she was supposed to be an herbal healer.  But she was frustrated and angry.  She didn’t know where to begin, adding: “I don’t have the money for all those expensive fancy classes!”  Bottom line: she wasn’t feeling it, it wasn’t showing up, and she didn’t know what to do. 

What I saw:  she was beating herself up about NOT fulfilling a psychic reading.

Whoa. 

Freeze. 

Put your hands on your heart and back slowly away from that psychic reading!!

Psychic readings are NOT meant to be weapons with which you can beat yourself up.  They are meant to uplift, inspire and heal.  If you are using your reading to feel guilty, frustrated, insecure, or upset, you are using it wrong.

Psychic Readings Are Other People’s Interpretations of YOUR Information Field

It’s ONE opinion.  And it might be a good one or a poor one, who knows.  It’s not written in stone. Let me explain. 

As a psychic, I often see pictures.  As the woman was talking, I saw a beautiful garden unfolding before me.  A garden you could tinker in and get happy. 

But after the picture comes the interpretation.  This is where psychic readings can shift off course, and it’s one of the reasons I often check in with my client by asking, “How does that feel to you?”  I want to know if I’m interpreting correctly.

What if the woman’s original psychic saw the same garden I did but concluded “herbal healer”?  I saw the garden and felt the garden itself talking to me.  So here’s how I helped.

The first thing I shared with the frustrated woman was this Truth:  You have all you need at every moment to accomplish your dreams, your calling, and your healing.  If you can’t afford classes, there is another way.  Books, the public library, free online searches.  You can ALWAYS find another way, always.

Secondly, I asked if she enjoyed gardening.  Big smile and happy look on her face!  Gardens were important and magical to her as a child, etc.  She LOVES gardening.  Ding ding ding.

When I asked how people could heal through having a garden, she knew the answer right away.  I saw a potential business within her and I shared:  she could help people plan, find resources for, and implement gardens.  Brilliant classes, plenty of demand.  She went away happier.

Which Reading Was Right?

Now, which psychic was “right”?  Is this woman really supposed to teach people to build gardens like I said?  Is that how she can best express her inner healer? 

Or… one day after teaching gardening for a while, while she’s happily transplanting parsely, will the plant speak to her and begin instructing her in how to heal with its properties?  Did I give her the intermediary step to becoming an herbal healer?

The correct answer is: it doesn’t matter.  There is no such thing as “right”, there is only now.  All I know is she went away happier with herself, with a viable business idea, and further along the path of awakening her Inner Healer.

How can you use your psychic readings to inspire you, uplift you, and keep you going through the dark times?  THat’s what they are meant to do.  How can you use your own intuition and knowing to inspire you and help awaken YOUR Inner Healer?

You are a natural healer.  May you find your calling or the task that makes your heart sing, with or without the help of a psychic reading.  If you have one, feel your own truth within it, and extract the uplifting information and energies from it.

I love this quote because it demonstrates Adams’ mastery. He durn well knows the standard rules of how to make a “good” photo.  And as a master, he knows how to break each one of them and still create a great photo.

Other masterful creatives have told me the same thing.  Last year a well-known makeup artist said she could tell me exactly what to wear to convey whatever message I had, and how to do my makeup.  But if I wore the wrong thing, she could adjust my makeup to “fix” any clothing faux pas.

Are you a master?  Remember that practicing specific methods or exercises only helps you develop skills. The method alone does not make you a master.  Practicing these skills with an open mind and good feedback leads to mastery.

In mastery you bypass other people’s rules and develop your own relationship with outcomes.  You find more ways to get there than you were ever taught.  In mastery, you don’t need your tools or methods or anything.

Eventually, we must let go of the ground to really fly.  For healers and creatives that means practicing until you internalize a method, and then creating the same results — or even better ones — your way.

This is the most powerful way to share the heart of your unique gifts and leave the world a better place.

Wow, the last few weeks have been a doozie! 

I’ve been experiencing profound healing (aka permanent positive change) that’s knocked me a bit off my routine.  I’ve enjoyed the astonishing new insights and visioning, however, both personally and for the Global Institute for Awakening.  I even shared one insight in a new video already. 

It’s created a rollercoaster of effects — offers from the Universe to step up and forward, and a couple to step back down and “stay safe” where things are familiar.  Whenever you expand forward, the Universe always offers you a chance to step down and stay small, too. It’s always your choice.

I’ve always wanted to paint.  In 2001, I took my first painting class from the local recreation program.  I thought of myself as a logical professional at the time, not an artsy type.  I bought the materials relying entirely on the list and the store clerk, shocked at the huge variety of paintbrushes.

I can see myself sitting at the easel in my dad’s old shirt one day, feeling guilty for asking mom to get the paints out for me, staring at the blank paper, needing to create something worthwhile… but completley blanking on WHAT I wanted to paint so badly.  Conclusion: Painting was too hard, too frustrating.  

Turns out, it wasn’t a class as much as an artist walking around the room for 2 hours.  My questions started with, “What do I do?”  Then, “What should I paint?”  She suggested a still life. 

Not having brought the requisite vase and fruit, I ran to the car and collected four plastic kid blocks out of the baby seat.  I followed her rough suggestions, outlining the blocks and attempting to shade them.

When I think of that class, all I remember is frustration and disappointment.  I couldn’t figure out shadows.  She didn’t tell me exactly how to do it.  The class was bad, I thought, the teacher was bad.  The teacher even said my painting was good — was she blind?!  I didn’t like the painting at all.  I was experiencing a world crisis! 

I used to get a sick feeling thinking of that first painting, but yesterday I dug it out and looked at it for the first time in a decade.  I was shocked to see it has a lot of promise for a first painting, though unfinished and unfinessed.  Looking with my eyes today, in fact, I think it’s great!  (And how appropriate: baby building blocks, LOL. See pic.) 

So Many Lessons Learned

1. All my angst was in my head.  It came from me, not the class.  I had expectations about the class, and because it was different than *I* demanded, I got upset.  Really upset.  I created a crisis and then lived the negative emotions and beliefs, for years and years afterwards, to my own detriment.  I did that a lot back then.

2. First paintings are masterpieces too: masterpieces of learning.  Now I see that since you never stop learning, you can let everything in your life be a masterpiece of learning!  Wow, you are SO good.

3. Things you do are never, ever as bad as you think.  Self-judgment is the worst.  We can be more cruel to ourselves than to anyone else.  Believe the compliments you get.  Write them down.  Repeat them to yourself.  You totally rock.

4. Get back up on the bike.  How can you judge your first painting?  Your first book?  Your first song?  Your first client’s results?  Keep going!  You are so much more than any single thing you do.

Whew, I’ve been going through a major healing wave in the last few weeks!  The kind where I stop calling my friends for a while b/c I’m processing stuff.  (They are used to this, bless them.)  In mid-January, it was like a floodgate opened on a clogged dry riverbed.  As the water has poured through, huge logs, boulders, branches, and rotten things have lifted away effortlessly, piece by piece.  

In the last week it’s been washing away blocks to my creativity.  Yes, I finally saw the pattern that when I start super-creative projects that are really “me”, they all seem to die!  Hmmm.  It’s time for that to stop, and I know that’s why this is clearing itself up. 

What Makes an Artist an Artist?

Oddly, since Tuesday I’ve been badly longing to see some paintings I did in 2001 after I took my very first painting class from the local recreation program.  It wasn’t a class as much as an artist walking around the room.  My questions started with, “What do I do?”  I hated the two paintings I attempted in that class.

About the same time, an astrologer told me I was so creative I should leap out of bed in the morning saying, “I am an artist!  I am an artist!  I am an artist!”  

Feh.  I was not an artist. I majored in econ with lots of math and computer courses.  I worked in finance.  I was logical, thank you very much. 

Then again, since I was little, I’ve longed to paint.  I remember sitting in front of blank paper, desperately wanting to paint, knowing I could, knowing the feeling of painting, but not being able to do it.  Blocked. 

So at my request this morning, my weekly healing mastermind focused on unlocking and healing creativity.  We cleared dozens of false beliefs that had been getting in my way.  Do you recognize any of these?  (You also can clear them by adding “I choose to lose the concept that…”) 

• Science is superior to art. 
• Art is a waste of time, artsy-fartsy, something to be made fun of, something to hide.
• Art is not valuable.  (So you have to buy cheap materials and you certainly can’t make a living out of it.)
• Nobody can be good at art except the chosen special few like Monet and VanGough, definitely not me.
• <Insert critical comment here about your art.>
• It’s too risky to put yourself out there genuinely through your art.

I hope you can see the utter ridiculousness of these few samples! 

As we worked, I finally went downstairs and dug out the paintings.  I was shocked to find they were MUCH better than I remembered.  In fact, my fourth painting (an unfinished bowl of pears) triggered an almost meditative state of Presence for me.  I’ll be working with that one this week! 

The Secret to Art & Why It Will Always Be In Demand – Always

Am I an artist? Are you?  In 14 years of learning why artists are stuck and sick, I’ve discovered a secret about art.  By observing my healing work with many high-level artists and creatives, I’ve concluded that creativity, intuition, and healing all come from the same place.  It is a place we are each connected to and a part of.

It’s not the physical, mechanical, logical, emf side of life.  Art connects us to the nonphysical, intuitive, knowing, genuine, connected, One-with-All side of the universe.  Art connects both the artist and the beholder to that Other Side, that part of ourselves we have a hard time sensing, the part with all the deep Peace, Love, Wisdom, Fulfillment and Bliss we could want.  We CRAVE this connection.  

Intuition also comes from connecting to that place of Wisdom and Potential, of Knowing.  And so does genuine transformative healing.  When we connect to that part of ourselves and use that part of our consciousness, we can shift to a better way of living and being in a way that changes our lives for the better.  Permanently.  That’s healing. 

Yes, perk up, starving artists –  since good art connects us with that infinite, higher side of ourselves, it will ALWAYS be in demand, always.  

My Challenge for You

I’m taking a look at my own art and creativity this week, with loving and accepting eyes this time.  I know I’m ready to do this.  I invite or even challenge you to do the same.  Then share your journey and art with us in the comments.  Post your blog or art links.  The more we share our stories of creativity, the more we can help each other and raise the next generation to accept their Inner Artists.  The more we enjoy art ourselves, the more we can heal. 

Art, at its core, is a level of mastery: mastery of patterns, mastery of connections, mastery of seeing the same thing in a new way.  So too is healing. 

When you master life’s patterns, you can create the GREATEST ART IN THE WORLD: making an art form out of LIVING YOUR LIFE and leaving the world a better place.  You can make an art of living, healing and Awakening.

It’s what you were born to do.

It is the highest expression of your gifts.

• Do you get up in the morning and do pretty much what you did yesterday?
• Do you feel like nothing you try will change the outcome of your life?
• Do you assume that what happened to you long ago has trapped you forever? (That’s a big myth!)

In the movie Groundhog Day, Bill Murray’s character falls into a time warp where no matter what crazy impulsive thing he does, even killing himself, he wakes up at exactly the same time on the same morning, over and over. 

It’s a movie of course, and the sarcastic angry character eventually shifts from manipulating his environment for the sense of power and accomplishment to genuinely connecting with those around him, esp his love interest. And it happens because this crazy time warp forces him, out of boredom, to stop looking at the surface of things.

Last week a client told me the same thing–that her life felt like the Groundhog Day movie.  Though she knew better, she observed herself every day repeating the same bad habits, the same shortcuts, the same behaviors that were keeping her stuck.  She said she felt like she lacked the power to stop repeating them. “How can I break out of that?” was her question.

Good question.

Plain and simple, I find behavior like this happens when a person is avoiding their Calling. 

It’s a very strong urge, the Calling.  It is an instinct so strong we can feel it but not always put words and actions on it. 

To block it off, to delay doing what you were born to do, to step out of your innate power, you need some serious firepower — lots of energy.  The most concentrated energy we can muster is called up by our emotions.  So the more stuck you get, the more frustrated and angry and grief-stricken and regretful and self-deprecating you get, the more you can “safely” avoid your calling.  The more you can stay attached to those things that happened in your childhood, the unfairness of life, the jealousy, the things that keep you small.  The more you can stay stuck.

BUT, Life is motion, and Life always moves forward.  As time passes, you naturally forget broken hearts, negative comments, etc.  To remember these things, you must think about them and drag in the energy of negative emotions to strengthen your connection with them.  Otherwise, your connections naturally fade.  To stay stuck in limiting habits, you need to generate negative emotion.  Unfortunatley, the side effect of this avoidance loop is that you suffer. A lot.  After a while, it feels awful and you would give anything to change it.

But suffering is not necessary. I remember when I was stuck in a similar place many years ago. I thought I would go crazy with how miserable I was, even I appeared to be living a fine life.  ONE thing pulled me through to the wonderful place I am today.  One thing.  It was that small part of me that knew, I mean it KNEW I was supposed to be doing something else.  Something greater.  Something that made a difference.  I had no idea what it was, but I hung onto that tiny bit of knowingness for dear life, and following it pulled me out of that misery and suffering. 

Can you hear or feel that tiny part of you that KNOWS you are not doing what you were meant to do?  Perhaps you even know what you are supposed to be doing, but feel helpless to break out of your current situation!

Are you ready to break free?  Are you ready to let go of the draining dramas and the tiring tirades once and for all?  The Global Institute for Awakening was founded to help you step into your Calling, the thing you were born to do.  If you aren’t following your calling, something will feel like it’s missing in your life.  You can win everything, get the job the spouse the car the house you desire, but something is still missing.  When life doesn’t satisfy, you’re missing your Calling.

To stop depriving yourself of your lucrative dream life and start nourishing yourself.  Make the decision today.  Find that tiny bit of knowingness inside you that says you were meant to do something else, something greater than this.  Write your decision on paper.  Write supporting statements of intention.  And when you mean it, the Universe will answer you.

It’s been splashed across the news recently that the sun is no longer actually in your astrological sun sign — the one you look up in the newspaper — and hasn’t been for centuries, due to the tilting earth.  Moreover, Babylonian astrologers apparently removed a sign from the zodiac.  Should it be in there?  Should your sign really be where the sun is located, a different sign?  After all, that’s the definition of a sun sign.

Oh what a week!

Last week was download week for me, and I’m still catching up with reality.  Messages, classes, marketing campaigns, coincidental offers — it all popped in, one after another after another. Almost to overwhelm level.

Have you experienced this yourself?  When your creativity goes crazy, and you become a fountain of ideas?  It’s exciting!  We are each connected to the Pool of All Possibilities, and when we open that connection, we can pull in new, life-enhancing options.  We can make the impossible possible.

Then the BIG question becomes: what do I do about it first?  

Doing something about it is where GIA comes in.  We give you the practical tools and systems to shift that creative fountain of ideas to a well-oiled, enjoyable business, practice or career. 

Here’s my favorite first step:  always always write down the idea or insight that came in. This action honors the Source of the idea.  It’s like saying thank you, plus you ARE taking the FIRST STEP to manifesting the concept in the physical/mental world.  

I keep a “Brainstorms” file on the computer where I write these down, plus a little notebook in my purse.  A beautiful journal would be delightful.

Another good reason to write them down is that sometimes these download experiences can be like dreams — you may have shifted into an altered state, so when you start operating in the everyday world, the brilliant ideas fade like a dream in the morning.  Though they were earth-shattering, now you can’t remember them.

So write them all down, right away.  Then enjoy sifting thru that Brainstorms file now and again to find insights and ideas you can still use.

Imagine yourself as a small seed.

Contained in that tiny seed is the complete pattern of the full, complex plant in its greatest fruition. All the fullness of its potential beauty and delight and glory and gifts for the world is already there.  All the information it needs to fulfill its pattern and potential is there.  It lacks nothing in its essence or core pattern.

I also guarantee that a more powerful potential outcome than you can even imagine is in that seed, too.  It’s merely not realized in the physical world… yet.

All you have to do is allow what’s in that seed — the inner wisdom and full innate pattern — to unfold. It already knows how to.  It knows a zillion ways how to.  It has the information.  It has infinite potential.  Your job is simply to assist.

• To provide the most nurturing environment without suffocating or stunting growth.
• To exercise and master your ability to help without slowing the process.
• To build faith and trust in the seed’s potential and to step back and allow it to fulfill its greatest potential.

Start now.  This is the year for your success!

2012 is coming up fast.  But people need you now.  This is the year to learn to step aside, uplevel, and let the seed that is you unfold more quickly into its greatest expression. Here are three steps to get you going:

1. Let go right now and allow the seed to be settled by gravity into its best place.  So often we are so obsessed with finding the “right” place or time that we never begin.

2. Step aside and let the rain soften the soil.  Allow the sun to shine on the growing plant, whatever it looks like in its awkward youth.  All you have is right under your nose… if you can see it.

3. Know that everything is best in the moment.  Trust that everything IS in there already and can emerge.  Trust that you have the power to help the seed within you.  Trust that the inner pattern of the seed knows a million ways to emerge and flower, and it’s hard to get in its way.  And trust that the rain, sun and other resources you need will appear as you need them.  If you find yourself worrying or getting in the way, you can actively work on building this trust.

You are a powerful being, constantly growing and increasingly fulfilling your potential.  May you enjoy many blessings on your exciting journey of growth this year!
